Our client in the global mining sector seeks a Principal Mining Engineer to lead underground operations in Upington, Northern Cape. You will drive innovation, safety, and efficiency, developing strategies, managing large projects, and guiding a team with technical oversight.

Ideal candidate has 12+ years in underground mining, strong rock mechanics knowledge, and proficiency with Deswik, Surpac, and Mine2-4D. Pr.Eng. or equivalent desirable; hybrid work arrangement available.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in underground mining engineering
• Senior or principal level experience
• PR.Eng. or equivalent accreditation desirable
• Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, ventilation, safety

Responsibilities

• Develop long- and short-term mine plans for underground operations in Upington.
• Lead feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and project development for new ventures.
• Implement and optimize underground mining methods (cut and fill, longhole stoping).
• Manage geotechnical assessments and ensure safety protocols.
• Use Deswik, Surpac, and Mine2-4D to optimize layouts and schedules.
• Advise on equipment selection and maintenance for efficiency.
• Mentor and develop a team of mining engineers and technicians.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and environmental policies.
• Collaborate with geology, processing, and maintenance for operational synergy.
