Job summary

Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA Health is seeking a Senior Access Associate to ensure timely, coordinated access to oncology care. You will be the first and last contact for patients, guiding them through complex scheduling, documentation, and provider coordination to deliver compassionate, high‑quality care in a nationally recognized academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Experience: 2+ years of directly relevant experience required.
• Licensure: None.

Responsibilities

• Engage patients, families, and referring providers across multiple points of the care continuum, both in person and by phone, using clear, compassionate communication.
• Manage complex patient scheduling, ensuring patients are seen by the right provider, at the right time, with the right records.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for patients requesting preferred physicians and for health system departments coordinating single or multiple appointments.
• Collect and verify demographic and insurance information, support cash collections, and address patient and family needs with professionalism and empathy.
• Resolve access related issues independently, including record retrieval, follow up communication, authorization challenges, and scheduling barriers.
• Actively participate in issue resolution and process improvement, identifying patterns that impact patient access and contributing to more efficient, patient focused workflows.
• Support and mentor other Access Associates, reinforcing best practices and modeling service excellence in an oncology setting.
• Processes incoming pathology materials received by the Cancer Center.
• Verifies and prepares pathology materials for departmental review.
• Coordinates transfer and staging of slides for pathology processing.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent
