Job summary

Matternet, based in Mountain View, CA, seeks a Senior Onboard Software Engineer to develop software for aircraft and ground assets. Working primarily in modern C++ on embedded Linux, you will own safety‑critical subsystems and drive end‑to‑end development from simulation to flight test.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Safety, and Production to deliver autonomous BVLOS capabilities, validate systems in hardware, and support field deployments, with a strong emphasis on

Qualifications

5+ years of production software engineering with end-to-end subsystem ownership.
Expertise in modern C++, multithreading, and algorithm design/optimization.
Strong Linux background with cross-compiling experience.
Experience with Python, YAML, and scripting tools.
Applied math skills for navigation and geometry.

Responsibilities

Own safety-critical onboard subsystems for UAS capabilities and safety mitigations.
Build autonomous flight systems for demanding environments, including urban airspaces.
Deliver customer-facing features on flight and ground assets balancing performance, safety and reliability.
Drive software verification and release from simulation to deployment across fleets.
Provide senior technical support, triaging and solving field/flight-test issues.
Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Safety, and Production.
