Job summary

Matternet seeks a Site Reliability Engineer to own the reliability of live flight operations software and infrastructure. You will shape SLOs, improve monitoring, and drive incident response across cloud, Kubernetes, and data systems.

You’ll work in a safety-critical context on AWS, Terraform, and CI/CD, collaborating with cloud, onboarding software, and operations teams to ensure resilient, scalable deliveries.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in SRE, infrastructure, or backend roles operating production systems, including on-call responsibility.
• Strong experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and containers.
• Hands-on infrastructure-as-code experience.
• Experience building monitoring and alerting with tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language.
• A track record of incident response, root-cause analysis, and turning incidents into durable fixes.
• Clear technical communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Matternet is building the future of delivery with autonomous drone networks that move critical goods faster, cleaner, and at lower cost. We work with partners across healthcare, logistics, food, and retail to deliver everything from medical items to everyday essentials, safely and reliably.

We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join the platform team that builds and runs the backend, data, and infrastructure services behind Matternet's delivery network. You'll own the reliability of the systems that support live flight operations: defining how we measure it, building the alerting and automation that protect it, and leading how we respond when something breaks. This is a hands-on role in a safety-critical environment. You'll work across our AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, Terraform, our observability stack, and the messaging and data systems that connect the fleet to the cloud.

In this role, you will:

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Terragrunt or Gruntwork
• Experience operating Kafka, MQTT brokers, or other messaging systems
• Experience with PostgreSQL operations, including upgrades, replication, and backup and recovery
• Knowledge of security practices for cloud infrastructure
• Experience with IoT/telemetry, fleet, robotics, or other systems with hardware in the loop
• UAV, aerospace, logistics, or other operationally critical domain experience
• Experience using AI coding assistants to accelerate development

• Compensation: The expected starting range for this role is $160,000–$205,000, based on San Francisco Bay Area market data. This range reflects the target starting pay for candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the role. Final compensation will depend on factors such as your experience, skills, level, location, and potential impact.
