Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Chicago, IL, is seeking an experienced design engineer for the xPL Offsite team. You will design and develop 3D models and detailed components for offsite manufactured solutions using MCAD tools, applying DMFA principles and ensuring compliance with contract documents and codes.

The role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, prototype testing, and scripting to automate tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Mechanical, Structural, or Industrial Engineering or related field, with minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing or construction.
• Experience in prefabrication, manufacturing, construction operations.
• Proficiency with MCAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, CAD Mep, Rhino, etc.).
• Familiarity with construction docs and coordination tools (Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIM platforms).
• Basic scripting/programming for design processes (Python, C#, VB.Net).
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills with ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design product details applying DMFA principles.
• Create detailed 3D models and drawings for offsite manufactured solutions.
• Develop product subject matter expertise for the xPL Product Development team.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and consultants on product design details.
• Review design compliance with codes and contract documents.
• Support prototype testing and quality reviews.
• Work with manufacturing teams to ensure design integrity during production.
• Develop scripts to automate routine design tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.
