Job summary

Apple is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Service Observability & Detection in Cupertino, CA. You will design telemetry foundations, SLOs, and detection systems across billions of events, enabling real-time visibility and proactive issue detection.

You will collaborate with Wallet, Payments, and Commerce teams to define standards, instrument code, and scale observability across a high-availability platform. Strong communication and leadership by influence are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with observability, reliability, or telemetry platform focus.
• Proven track record leading cross-functional initiatives across teams you don’t directly manage.
• Experience building telemetry pipelines, data models, and scalable instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable telemetry pipelines using OpenTelemetry, instrumentation libraries, and collectors.
• Define telemetry standards, naming conventions, and context propagation across services.
• Architect multi-tier SLO frameworks with actionable error budgets and burn-rate alerts.
• Build intelligent, scalable alerting to prevent storms and improve incident response.
• Design end-to-end observability across distributed microservice architectures and partners.
