Job summary

American Electric Power in Arkansas is seeking a senior plant operator to safely start, run, and shut down a gas/oil fueled electric generating unit with HVAC, HRSGs and related equipment. You will direct outside workers, develop operating procedures for abnormal conditions, and ensure environmental and OSHA compliance.

You will lead teams, troubleshoot complex plant issues, and participate in maintaining water chemistry and plant controls while coordinating with dispatch and supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Equivalent combination of formal education, apprentice training, military technical training, and power generation experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ethical behavior and leadership in safe and healthy work practices and environmental stewardship.
• Operate and direct start-up, operation, control, synchronization and shutdown of turbines, HRSGs, pumps, transformers, and auxiliary equipment safely.
• Monitor alarms and data; respond to abnormal conditions and log results.
• Maintain boiler water chemistry and plant cycle chemistry; collect and analyze samples.
• Coordinate with Production Optimization Group to obtain dispatch orders and confirm status.
• Inspect and repair electrical, instrumentation and plant control systems; perform interlock and functional tests.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance and assist in predictive maintenance program development.
• Use work management systems to manage work orders, material requests and data analytics.
