Job summary

Alstom Grid seeks a Senior Excitation Engineer to act as the global technical authority for excitation control systems across the GE Vernova and legacy nuclear fleet. You will define strategy for modernization, reliability, and regulatory compliance, guiding field installations and complex validation efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Master’s or PhD strongly preferred).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in power generation engineering, with at least 5–8 years focused on excitation systems or mission-critical power plant controls.
• Exposure to Nuclear Safety Culture and nuclear-specific quality/documentation standards.
• Deep knowledge in synchronous generator theory and power system stability.
• Strong systems engineering capability to lead cross-functional integration across excitation controls, generator systems, plant interfaces, and nuclear requirements.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical roadmap for excitation systems in the global nuclear fleet, including obsolescence management and life-extension programs.
• Ensure designs and modifications comply with nuclear regulatory requirements and internal quality systems.
• Lead root cause analysis for high-priority disturbances, balancing plant availability and safety.
• Direct modeling and simulation of interactions between nuclear baseload and grid codes for fleet stability.
• Provide expert consulting to Commercial/Sales on multimillion-dollar retrofit tenders for technical feasibility and risk mitigation.
• Mentor engineers and develop documentation standards to preserve domain knowledge.
• Lead formal design reviews for New Product Introductions and custom nuclear applications with rigorous V&V.
