Job summary

PacBio is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for its Instrument Engineering team to drive NPI electrical activities from concept to manufacturing ramp. You will work on PCBAs, cable assemblies, and related hardware for DNA sequencing instruments, collaborating with design, manufacturing, QA, and suppliers.

You will design and validate production test fixtures, develop schematics/layouts, and perform hands-on PCBA bring-up and testing while contributing to DFM/DFT considerations and process

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; typically 5+ years in industry.
• Experience with PCBA design, bring-up, testing, or troubleshooting.
• Experience designing electrical test fixtures or production test equipment.
• Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools; Cadence or Altium preferred.
• Working knowledge of oscillosopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and logic analyzers.
• Understanding of DFx/DFM principles in manufacturing.
• Experience creating and maintaining engineering docs like schematics, BOMs, test procedures, and wiring drawings.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support electrical NPI activities from concept through pilot builds and production ramp.
• Collaborate with design engineers to transition PCBAs and related hardware into manufacturing.
• Design, build, validate, and document production test fixtures for subassemblies and instrument-level testing.
• Develop schematics and PCB layouts for production test fixture electronics.
• Perform PCBA bring-up, electrical testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Develop and maintain production test requirements, procedures, acceptance criteria, and troubleshooting docs.
• Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturing feedback (DFM/DFT).
• Support creation and release of cables, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
• Coordinate with internal teams, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to resolve issues.
