Job summary

Grow Early Learning seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations in our Raleigh, NC office. The role emphasizes accurate financial reporting, GAAP compliance, and nonprofit grant administration.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, 7+ years of accounting with 3+ years in supervision, and strong Excel/enterprise system skills. Head Start and nonprofit experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; seven years accounting exp; three years supervisory; knowledge of federal grant requirements.
• Preferred: Master’s degree; five years accounting exp; nonprofit accounting, federal grants, Head Start programs, enterprise accounting systems.
• Strong GAAP knowledge, internal controls, financial reporting and grant compliance; advanced Excel and financial-system skills; leadership and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and annual financial close.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and complete financial records.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules.
• Prepare and review financial reports and analyses.
• Maintain chart of accounts and accounting practices.
• Monitor internal controls and GAAP compliance.
• Support grant management and subrecipient monitoring.
• Oversee cash management, AP/AR, payroll accounting.
• Coordinate audits and special projects.
• Supervise staff; recruit, train, and evaluate direct reports.
