Job description

Position Overview

The Controller will lead all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and healthcare regulations. This role will oversee the general ledger, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls, while partnering with leadership to support strategic financial planning and grant compliance. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with experience in nonprofit and/or healthcare accounting, capable of managing complex funding streams and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including GL, AP, AR, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Lead the month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Prepare and review financial reports for leadership, board members, and external stakeholders.
  • Manage grant accounting, including tracking restricted funds and ensuring compliance with donor and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit, including preparation of schedules and interaction with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP for nonprofits, healthcare regulations, and applicable federal and local requirements.
  • Oversee preparation of Form 990 and support regulatory reporting as needed.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Partner with program leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial operations and reporting efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 6–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit and/or healthcare industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting and restricted funding.
  • Experience with grant management and compliance.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-related financial operations (e.g., billing, reimbursements, or program funding) is a plus.
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Workday, or similar.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment
