Deephaven Mortgage LLC is seeking an experienced mortgage underwriter for a remote role in the United States. You will manually underwrite loans outside QM guidelines, assess borrower risk using alternative data, ensure compliance with investor rules, and contribute to loan approvals.

The role requires hands-on non-QM underwriting experience, familiarity with Encompass, and a track record of high-volume underwriting.

Qualifications

• Recent, hands-on non-QM underwriting experience is required.
• Experience underwriting HELOCs and 2nd mortgages strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of experience as an underwriter.
• Proficiency in Encompass and navigation of underwriting workflows.
• High-volume underwriting background (50+ underwrites/month).
• Strong understanding of non-QM guidelines and investor overlays.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite mortgage loans manually to company/investor guidelines.
• Perform quality control audits of third-party vendor mortgage files.
• Review loan scenarios and communicate eligibility to clients.
• Collaborate with underwriters, processors, closers, and account teams.
• Work with processing staff to clear loan conditions.
• Assess credit and compliance questions and update standards.
• Analyze loan applications and assess borrower credit risk.
• Evaluate multi-family properties for market value and income.
• Ensure property's income covers loan payments and expenses.
• Engage with clients to gather information and provide feedback.
• Recommend loan structuring to mitigate risk while meeting needs.
• Decide to approve, deny, or modify loans based on analysis.
