Job summary

The University of Vermont is seeking a Network Engineering Team Lead to supervise the Network Engineers and oversee wireless and wired networking, Internet connectivity, VPNs, Cisco firewalls, and Cisco Unified Communications Manager to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable services across campus.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of TCP/IP network design, troubleshooting, and management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• Experience managing large projects, including technical and non-technical aspects.
• Excellent customer service focus, collaborative troubleshooting.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Expert knowledge of enterprise networking technologies, including routing, switching, wireless, and security.
• Experience with VoIP services and telephony.
• Experience with network management tools.
• A security-first approach to deploying services.
• Desirable: supervisory experience leading technical staff.
• Familiarity with Internet2/eduroam and high-throughput research data flows.
• Experience with project management tools or approaches.
• Automation tools and scripting (e.g., Ansible, Python); proficiency in at least one language.
• Experience as a network engineer or team lead at an academic institution.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Network Engineering team, oversee staff tasks, and plan major projects with university-wide impact.
• Coordinate connectivity to high-speed regional networks, Internet, and national phone network; oversee upgrades and facilities design.
• Collaborate with the CTO to allocate resources and ensure timely delivery of initiatives across IT Infrastructure.
