Job summary

The University of Vermont is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, troubleshoot, and manage its wired and wireless network infrastructure across campuses and residences. The role focuses on high‑level design (IPv4/IPv6), problem resolution, and contributing to scalable, reliable networking services aligned with institutional priorities.

You will lead complex network projects, collaborate with central and distributed IT staff, implement VoIP, E-911, firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, DWDM

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related discipline and five years’ experience in design, troubleshooting, and management of medium- or large-sized complex enterprise TCP/IP networks.
• Four additional years of experience can substitute for the degree.
• Expert knowledge of routing and switching, and core networking technologies.
• Effective communication and cross-functional teamwork are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide problem resolution for applications running over the University network and Internet.
• Configure, troubleshoot and maintain VoIP infrastructure, E-911, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, DWDM and Ethernet technologies.
• Lead complex network projects and collaborate with central and distributed IT staff.
• Engage with stakeholders across the University to ensure reliable, scalable networking services.
