Job summary

The City of Norfolk IT Department seeks a Network Engineer IV to lead a high-performing team, modernize and secure the City’s network infrastructure, and oversee complex projects across departments.

Ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in network technologies, disaster recovery, and virtualization, with excellent communication and leadership skills to drive initiatives and collaborate with executives, staff, and vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field.
• Minimum 5 years IT experience, with at least 3 years in network engineering.
• CCNA, CCNP, CWNP, CWNA, Network+, Security+ certifications preferred.
• Microsoft Azure and/or AWS cloud certifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of network engineers and oversee projects.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues and outages.
• Develop and maintain documentation for configurations, policies, and procedures.
• Coordinate cross-team collaboration with cybersecurity, applications, and public safety groups.
• Manage network upgrades, replacements, and lifecycle projects.
• Ensure network configurations adhere to security standards and incident response requirements.
