The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a highly skilled Network Security Administrator to secure, monitor, and maintain the city’s enterprise network infrastructure. This role protects municipal systems, ensures network reliability, and supports cybersecurity operations.

The ideal candidate has strong network security expertise, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to continuous improvement, proactive defense, and incident response to safeguard residents and city services.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required.
• 3–5+ years of network security experience.
• Strong understanding of firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and routing/switching.
• Experience with SIEM tools, log analysis, and security monitoring.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and incident response practices.

Responsibilities

• Configure, manage, and maintain firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and security appliances.
• Monitor network traffic for anomalies, threats, and performance issues.
• Enforce network security policies, access controls, and segmentation.
• Conduct vulnerability remediation, patching, and hardening.
• Participate in incident detection, triage, containment, and remediation.
• Investigate security alerts and logs using SIEM and monitoring tools.
• Maintain documentation for incidents, changes, and configurations.
• Support audits, assessments, and reporting related to network security.
