Job summary

Norfolk Public School District is seeking a Network Engineer III - Security to safeguard the district’s information systems, focusing on network security, tools implementation, and education of administrators on information assurance practices.

You will oversee security standards, manage firewalls, VPNs, PKI, and cloud filtering while collaborating with IT staff to protect data and support district operations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of state and federal privacy regulations FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, FOIA.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Experience in configuring and managing enterprise level firewalls.
• Understanding of cloud based web filtering.
• Ability to identify bottlenecks and seek out innovative technological or procedural solutions.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field; 5+ years’ experience in network OS security with policy duties.

Responsibilities

• Review network security issues and evaluate preventive actions.
• Maintain procedures manual for IT systems.
• Review audit logs and prepare reports for management.
• Evaluate software/hardware for compatibility and vulnerabilities.
• Stay abreast of security vulnerabilities in network OS and email.
• Conduct security vulnerability scans and recommend remedial actions.
• Design, implement, and administer remote access solutions for school employees and third-party vendors.
• Develop contingency plans for critical systems.
• Supports disaster recovery planning and backup procedures.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field
