Job summary

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) seeks an experienced Staff Network Engineer to design, operate, secure, and sustain classified network infrastructure in Raleigh, NC.

The role covers Cisco switching/routing, Palo Alto firewalls, and integration with Splunk and ForeScout, with vulnerability remediation and documentation responsibilities. Active DoD Secret clearance with Top Secret eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Requires DoD Secret clearance with eligibility for Top Secret
• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 2–4 years of work experience
• 8+ years of relevant network engineering/operations experience
• Strong troubleshooting across OSI Layers 1–4 with packet/log analysis
• Experience with network monitoring, configuration management, vulnerability remediation, and documentation
• Ability to meet DoD 8570/8140 cybersecurity workforce requirements (IAT Level II)
• Ability to communicate risk, status, deficiencies to technical staff and government stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Document current infrastructure and map IPs, ports, and services
• Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN infrastructure including SIPRNet
• Administer Cisco, ARS/ISR, Dell fabric switches, Palo Alto devices; integrate with Splunk/ForeScout
• Manage operating systems such as IOS, IOS-XE, FTD/ASDM, Palo Alto OS
• Implement Layer 2/3 technologies and ensure secure segmentation and external connectivity
• Support RMF/ATO activities and incident response; assist with after-hours maintenance
