Job summary

Applied Research Associates, Inc. in Raleigh, NC seeks an experienced Staff Network Engineer to design, operate, secure, and sustain classified network infrastructure. You will support Cisco/Firewall platforms, integrate with Splunk/Forescout, and maintain RMF readiness with DoD stakeholders.

The role requires active DoD Top Secret clearance, 8+ years in network engineering, and strong documentation and collaboration with program teams. On-site work in Raleigh with after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
• Active DoD Top Secret clearance; SCI eligibility preferred.
• 8+ years of network engineering, administration, or operations experience.
• Strong troubleshooting across OSI layers 1-4 with packet/log analysis.
• Experience with network monitoring, configuration management, patching and remediation.
• Meet DoD 8570 / 8140 cybersecurity requirements (IAT Level II).
• Ability to communicate risk, status, and needs to technical staff and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build out documentation of current infrastructure and maps for Raleigh Secure IT.
• Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN infrastructure for classified environments.
• Administer Cisco, Dell, Palo Alto devices; integrate with ForeScout/ISE, Splunk, AAA.
• Administer OSes such as IOS/IOS-XE/FTD/ASDM; ensure security hardening.
• Implement Layer 2/3 technologies, STP, 802.1X, VLANs, BGP, ACLs, VRFs.
• Maintain secure segmentation, boundary protection, DNS, and DoDIN connectivity.
• Integrate with SIEM platforms to monitor availability, performance, and security events.
• Apply DISA STIGs, baselines, updates, vulnerability remediation, and hardening.
• Develop network diagrams, IP plans, inventories, and SOPs; support changes via CCB.
• Support cybersecurity incidents, outages, and government-directed actions.
