Job summary

Fortra is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to contribute to the Automate platform.

You will design and build capabilities on a mature .NET product within a distributed team, delivering high-quality code while mentoring peers and helping adopt AI tooling. You will work across desktop client, server, and database layers, embracing security, performance, and platform health, with opportunities for growth and impact across time zones.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep hands-on .NET and C# work.
• Strong grasp of object-oriented design and modern software engineering practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including complex queries and performance tuning.
• Experience with full stack, on-premises software delivery and long-lived codebases.
• Experience writing unit tests with a critical eye for test value.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build/release tooling, ideally GitLab.
• Mentoring other engineers and effective cross-time-zone collaboration.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

• Execute on the development of new platform capabilities from requirements to implementation, testing, and release.
• Identify and evaluate new technologies, including AI capabilities for the product.
• Work across a large .NET/C# codebase spanning desktop, server, and database layers.
• Diagnose and fix complex defects crossing component boundaries in production.
• Maintain platform health through runtime upgrades, security remediation, and quality gates.
• Participate in the full development lifecycle from design through release.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, and feedback.
• Lead projects, break work down, sequence tasks, and keep progress visible.
