Job summary

Fortra is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to design and build new capabilities on the Automate platform. You’ll work on a mature .NET product, mentor peers, and help the team adopt AI tools responsibly.

This is a full-time, fully remote role on a distributed team serving industries like financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing. Responsibilities include implementing platform capabilities, evaluating new technologies, and maintaining health and security of the product, across desktop,

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep hands-on .NET and C# work
• Strong grasp of object-oriented design and modern software practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server and complex queries
• Experience with full-stack on-prem delivery and large codebases
• Experience writing unit tests and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab)
• Mentoring engineers and contributing to team standards
• Excellent written and verbal English communication
• Experience using AI coding assistants in production

Responsibilities

• Execute development of new platform capabilities from product requirements to release plans
• Identify and evaluate new technologies including AI capabilities
• Work across a large .NET and C# codebase including desktop, server, and database components
• Diagnose and fix complex defects spanning components
• Maintain foundational work like upgrades, security, and platform health
• Participate in the full development lifecycle from design to release
• Mentor less experienced engineers and lead projects when needed
• Set team conventions and quality gates for sustainable progress
• Document trade-offs and decisions to preserve context
