Job summary

Serco Inc. seeks a Senior Naval Architect to support Navy and commercial customers in Washington, DC. The role involves analyses, hull form design, stability and weight studies, and integration across disciplines to define ship characteristics and performance.

You will engage in design validation, model testing oversight, and interaction with customers, while ensuring compliance with naval standards and security requirements.

Qualifications

• The ability to obtain/maintain/transfer an active Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance.
• A U.S. citizenship.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related engineering field such as Ocean Engineering.
• Five (5) years of relevant work experience.
• Working knowledge of structures, hydrodynamics, weights and stability, speed and powering, hull form design, arrangements, manning, vibration, damage control and survivability.
• Familiar with U.S Navy and MIL specifications related to ship design, classification society rules, and professional society guidance.
• Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software and common Naval Architecture design software programs and finite elements modeling/simulations.
• Able to travel 10%.

Responsibilities

• Apply naval architectural knowledge to develop analyses and products.
• Develop and validate design and engineering requirements and provide inputs to technical reports.
• Provide hull form and hydrodynamic performance analyses and lines plans.
• Provide weight and stability analyses including CG and deadweight surveys.
• Concept and feasibility design studies addressing whole ship sizing and performance.
• Perform design integration coordinating inputs from multiple disciplines.
• Perform structural design and hull girder considerations.
• Produce general arrangements and ship layout concepts.
• Participate in project reviews and coordinate with customers.
