Job summary

Apex Engineering Group, Inc. in Dickinson, ND is seeking a Lead Engineer to manage municipal projects from planning through construction.

You will guide a team of engineers, technicians and staff, mentor juniors, prepare proposals, and participate in client interviews to secure work. The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering, PE license (or within 6–12 months), 7+ years in municipal civil engineering, and strong project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering required. Master’s degree a plus.
• Professional Engineers License preferred or ability to be licensed within 6-12 months required.
• 7+ years of experience as a Civil Engineer in municipal engineering.
• Experience in civil design drawings, specs and cost opinions for water/sewer utilities, roadways, drainage, etc.
• Experience with local/county/state agencies is a plus.
• Strong project management and construction management experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Windows/Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• AutoCAD/Civil-3D, Microstation/GeoPak, Google SketchUP Pro or ARCMap GIS a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers, technicians and support staff from planning through construction.
• Independently manage projects and contribute to design and development of plans and specs.
• Mentor project team members and report to a senior engineer or principal.
• Lead proposals and participate in interviews to secure work.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams on complex projects.
• Travel and occasional overtime during construction season.
