Job summary

Self-Help Services Corp in Durham, NC is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our payroll team and ensure accurate, compliant multi-state payroll for 1,000+ staff. This role will drive process improvements, maintain internal controls, and partner with HR and finance on system upgrades and year-end activities.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, at least 4 years in payroll, and strong knowledge of federal/state wage laws with Workday proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience.
• 4 years’ of related payroll experience.
• Experience with Workday preferred.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll.
• Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Oversee multi-state payroll processing for 1000+ staff.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state wage laws.
• Lead payroll team and provide coaching and development.
• Develop payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Oversee year-end payroll activities (W-2s, ACA filings).
• Collaborate on system testing, upgrades, and release management.
