Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a seasoned Maintenance Specialist III to perform complex repairs and maintenance across building systems at Big Spring State Hospital. The role focuses on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry and related trades, with strong emphasis on safety, documentation, and teamwork.

The position requires vocational training or equivalent experience, a Texas driver license, and ability to operate heavy machinery.

Qualifications

• Vocational training in electrical, plumbing, masonry, mechanical equipment, locksmithing, painting, motor vehicle maintenance, grounds keeping, equipment maintenance, HVAC, carpentry, welding, or electronic cabling.
• Minimum two years of experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment/vehicle repair work (two years in one trade and six months in two others).
• Ability to read drawings, schematics, or sketches and interpret technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections, maintenance and repair on building systems and utilities.
• Maintains and repairs plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting and related components.
• Completes work orders, keeps records, and may train others in procedures.
