Job summary

American business solutions inc is seeking a contract SQL Server DBA in Pennsylvania to manage and optimize large SQL Server databases. Responsibilities include monitoring uptime, troubleshooting connectivity and security issues, and tuning long-running queries.

You will install and upgrade SQL Server with failover clustering, support Azure-based databases, and apply data modeling principles to ensure reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience w/ Microsoft SQL Server database.
• At least 1 year of Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks experience (a certification acceptable).
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or related field.
• Experience communicating using standard requirements/design artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Monitor databases to maintain uptime and availability.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, access, security issues related to databases.
• Tune long running SQL and optimize performance.
• Review and refine existing database tasks to align with priorities.
• Use OS scripting to support maintenance/diagnosis of databases.
• Propose and implement changes to existing database implementations.
• Perform SQL Server installations (2022, 2025+) with failover clustering.
• Provide administration, support and tuning for SQL Server databases.
• Knowledgeable in data modeling principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Expertise working as a SQL Server DBA
• Expertise working with SQL clustering, mirroring and high availability
• Experience working with large SQL databases
• Expertise in writing Transact SQL
• Experience tuning SQL Server databases
• Expertise in installing, upgrading, patching and migrating SQL Server databases
• Experience working on a Windows platform
• Exposure to SSIS, SSAS, & SSRS
• Experience working with Azure Cloud

Day to Day Duties

• Monitor databases to maintain/ensure database uptime and availability.
• Troubleshoot application/database issues related to connectivity, access, security, etc.
• Tune long running SQL
• Review & refine existing database tasks and processes to better align with agency/group priorities.
• Leverage & utilize O/S scripting utilities in support of database maintenance/diagnosis/support.
• Review the existing database implementation and propose, execute, and/or direct necessary changes.
• Perform SQL Server installations (2022,2025+ w/ failover clustering).
• Support SQL Server databases (administration, support, tuning).
• Knowledgeable of data modeling principles

Qualifications
