Job summary

Akaasa Technologies in Virginia seeks a seasoned SQL Server DBA for tolling systems. The role focuses on administering SQL Server and cloud databases, ensuring uptime, and supporting the Tolling Eng and Ops Team.

You will handle clustering, high availability, performance tuning, and migrations to newer SQL Server versions, while collaborating with Engineering and Operations to meet agency priorities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• At least 1 year of Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks experience (cert acceptable in lieu of experience).
• Master's degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent.
• 3–4 years upgrading EZPass VA Tolling SQL Server environments (SQL 2012 to 2019) incl. compatibility, Query Tuning Assistant, and Database Migration Assistant.
• Experience diagnosing deadlocks and blocking in Tolling workloads (Extended Events, Query Store, wait stats).
• Experience tuning Very Large Databases (2 TB+) including index optimization and reducing resource contention.

Responsibilities

NOTE that they have made experience with VA EZ Pass SQL Server DB's a required skill. This will be very difficult to find, I'll settle for someone that has worked on EZ Pass DB's (EZ Pass covers more than one state). Requires 4 days a week onsite. candidates within 50 mile radius of Richmond VA.
seeking a SQL Server / Cloud DBA to join the Tolling Eng and Ops Team to administer and support SQL Server and cloud databases in the Tolling group; the role also includes help desk and application support responsibilities. seeking a SQL Server database /Cloud database administrator to join the Tolling Engineering and Operations Team. The selected candidate will administer and support SQL Server and cloud databases in the Tolling group. Additional help desk and application support responsibilities will be part of rotation with the Tolling team.

The selected candidate has:

• Expertise working as a SQL Server DBA
• Expertise working with SQL clustering, mirroring and high availability
• Experience working with large SQL databases
• Expertise in writing Transact SQL
• Experience tuning SQL Server databases
• Expertise in installing, upgrading, patching and migrating SQL Server databases
• Experience working on a Windows platform

The selected candidate will:

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in computer science, information systems or other applicable and/or equivalent skills, knowledge and/or work history
• Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively using standard requirements and design artifacts
• Minimum 3 4 years hands-on experience upgrading E ZPass Virginia Tolling SQL Server environments from SQL 2012 to SQL 2019, including compatibility evaluations, Query Tuning Assistant, and Database Migration Assistant.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving deadlocksand blocking in Tolling production workloads, including extended events, Query Store, and wait statistic analysis.
• Experience tuning Very Large Databases (2 TB+)including index optimization, long running workload analysis, and minimizing resource contention.
