Job summary

HCL Global Systems Inc seeks an experienced SQL Server DBA to maintain high availability of large databases, perform tuning, and lead upgrades with failover clustering. You will work on Azure cloud environments and tolling-related SQL Server infrastructures, ensuring security and performance across mission-critical systems.

The role requires strong problem solving, collaboration with Engineering and Operations, and clear communication to align with agency priorities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of Microsoft SQL Server experience.
• At least 1 year with Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks (certification acceptable).
• Master’s degree or equivalent in CS or IS.
• Experience upgrading E-ZPass Virginia Tolling SQL Server environments from 2012 to 2019.

Responsibilities

• Monitor databases to ensure uptime and availability.
• Troubleshoot connectivity, access, and security issues.
• Tune long running SQL and optimize queries.
• Review and refine database tasks to align with priorities.
• Utilize OS scripting for maintenance and diagnostics.

The selected candidate will:

• Monitor databases to maintain/ensure database uptime and availability.
• Troubleshoot application/database issues related to connectivity, access, security, etc.
• Tune long running SQL
• Review & refine existing database tasks and processes to better align with agency/group priorities.
• Leverage & utilize O/S scripting utilities in support of database maintenance/diagnosis/support.
• Review the existing database implementation and propose, execute, and/or direct necessary changes.
• Perform SQL Server installations (2022,2025+ w/failover clustering).
• Knowledgeable of data modelling principles

• Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively using standard requirements and design artifacts
