Job summary

Zillow Group is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mortgage Underwriting to lead end-to-end reviews of complex mortgage applications. You will apply agency, investor, and internal guidelines to decide on credit, income, assets, and collateral while documenting conditions and rationale.

This remote role requires 8+ years of residential underwriting experience, familiarity with Encompass, and the ability to mentor junior underwriters, manage a high-volume pipeline, and maintain quality and speed under

Qualifications

• 8+ years of residential mortgage underwriting experience.
• Ability to Underwrite mortgage loan files for agency compliance and investor guidelines
• Experience reviewing borrower profiles including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, and appraisals
• Ability to manage a large pipeline and meet tight deadlines
• Experience underwriting Jumbo loans preferred
• Experience with recent manual underwriting
• Experience in a medium to large size nonbank lender preferred
• Encompass experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end underwriting review for mortgage applications.
• Apply policies to render credit decisions and document conditions.
• Review and resolve escalated files with policy, capital markets, and compliance teams.
• Collaborate with mortgage sales, processing, and closing teams to clarify requirements.
• Identify trends in underwriting defects and recommend process improvements.
• Maintain service levels while handling a high-volume pipeline.
• Document in Encompass and respond to audits.
• Safeguard borrower confidentiality and stay current on guidelines.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters and share best practices.
• Meet departmental goals including production, quality, and efficiency.
