Job summary

GNB Mortgage, a division of Great North Bank, seeks an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to handle a broad mix of Conventional, Jumbo, FHA, VA, USDA, VHDA, and Non-QM products. You will review income, assets, credit, and collateral, issue approvals and conditions, and collaborate with the Sales team to structure loans while staying compliant with investor, agency, and regulatory guidelines.

Hybrid remote options may be available based on experience and location.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years mortgage underwriting experience.
• Active FHA DE certification.
• Experience underwriting Jumbo loans.
• Strong knowledge of Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and VHDA guidelines.
• Experience evaluating complex income scenarios, self-employed borrowers, multiple properties, and layered risk files.
• Excellent decision-making, communication, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite residential mortgage loans in compliance with investor, agency, regulatory, and company guidelines.
• Review income, assets, credit, collateral, and overall loan risk to make sound lending decisions.
• Issue accurate approvals, conditions, suspensions, and denials.
• Collaborate closely with Sales team to structure loans and resolve underwriting challenges.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards while delivering outstanding customer service.
• Stay current on agency, investor, regulatory, and underwriting guideline updates.
