Job summary

Checkr is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Mortgage in San Francisco. You will lead 16+ engineers as head of engineering for the mortgage business, owning end-to-end product delivery from APIs to AI-powered verification decisions and customer experiences.

You'll partner with Product and executives, shape strategy, manage architectural direction, and scale teams to serve major lenders while delivering measurable business impact and customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years as an engineering manager and 12+ years as an engineer overall, including experience managing large teams and managers.
• Experience owning a P&L or business line with revenue targets and capacity planning in regulated environments.
• Deep understanding of service architecture and lean software development principles to balance tech and business tradeoffs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate technical strategy for executives.
• Experience with machine learning and AI and enthusiasm for AI-native product environments.
• Humility, openness to feedback, and willingness to learn.
• A-player mindset with action-orientation, urgency, resilience, and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap and architecture for the Mortgage platform and partner with product management to co-own product direction and delivery for millions of consumers.
• Own delivery for the Mortgage business line and partner with leadership as a peer for business results.
• Set technical direction, reduce debt, and scale architecture while maintaining delivery speed for future product offerings.
• Represent engineering in strategy planning, including capacity modeling, headcount planning, and prioritization tradeoffs.
• Manage quality incidents as technical and communication lead.
