Checkr, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Mortgage to lead 16+ engineers as the head of engineering for our mortgage business.

Reporting to the VP of Engineering with visibility to executive leadership, you’ll own the product end to end—from APIs and integrations to AI/ML-powered verification decisions and the customer experience. You’ll operate as a business leader, not just an engineering leader: partnering with Product to shape strategy, owning the technical roadmap and

Qualifications

• 8+ years as an engineering manager and 12+ years as an engineer, including managing large teams and managers.
• Experience owning a P&L or business line with revenue targets and capacity planning.
• Deep understanding of service architecture, system design, and lean software principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to translate tech strategy for executives.
• Experience with machine learning and AI; comfortable in an AI-native company.
• Humility, openness to feedback and ownership of outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap and architecture for the Mortgage platform; partner with product management to co-own direction.
• Lead delivery for the Mortgage business line and align with business leadership on results.
• Set technical direction, reduce debt, scale architecture, and maintain delivery speed.
• Represent engineering in strategy planning with capacity modeling and headcount planning.
• Manage quality incidents as technical and communications lead.
• Hire and mentor engineers, raising the bar for talent and career growth.
• Build direct relationships with customers and drive results with them.
