Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Laboratory Technologist III to perform advanced molecular research under the PI and laboratory supervisor. The role provides technical expertise to support ongoing projects, ensuring safety compliance and regulatory adherence across the lab.

Responsibilities include conducting high-complexity molecular experiments, developing ctDNA-based assays, and documenting results in approved notebooks and ELN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology, microbiology, biochemistry or a closely related field and relevant experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in an academic, translational, or biotechnology setting.
• Demonstrated experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS), digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), liquid handling/automation platforms, and related molecular assay platforms and techniques.

Responsibilities

• 30% Research activities: conduct experiments for projects using molecular assays and ddPCR; support development and validation of ctDNA-based assays.
• 20% Perform specialized molecular examinations for assay development and validation of low-frequency variant detection.
• 10% Document research activities in notebooks and ELN; ensure compliance with IRB/ACUC and regulatory standards.
• 10% Generate reports evaluating project progress and performance.
• 10% Develops and implements policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure scalability, reproducibility, and quality.
• 10% Purchasing and inventory: assist in managing supplies and reagents.
• 10% Special projects and consultation: advise investigators on project design and feasibility.
