Job summary

Foundation Medicine in Morrisville, NC seeks a Molecular Technologist I to perform complex patient sample testing with limited supervision. Responsibilities include preparing NGS libraries, nucleic acid extraction, sequencing, operating automated platforms, and maintaining GDP-compliant records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or life science (per NYSDOH regulatory requirements)
• 6 months of molecular laboratory work experience in a CAP/CLIA regulated lab
• Certifications or licensure that is required by the state or county in which the job is posted
• MB-ASCP Certification is preferred
• Familiarity with DNA manipulation techniques, enzymatic reactions, and sequencing chemistry
• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Experience ensuring and maintaining integrity and quality of the laboratory in the areas of sample processing, equipment maintenance, and SOPs
• Knowledge about laboratory safety protocols
• Understanding of HIPAA and patient data privacy

Responsibilities

• Prepare the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library.
• Extract and isolate nucleic acids under limited supervision.
• Complete hybridization capture, and genetic sequencing methods.
• Operate automated 8-span and 96-head liquid handling platforms.
• Operate quantification, sizing, and NGS instruments.
• Maintain quality and efficiency to meet Turn Around Time (TAT).
• Use LIMS to track and execute sample processing.
• Document steps per GDP and maintain records.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance checks.
• Collaborate on SOP revisions for process improvements and regulatory changes.
