Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum Tech is seeking a Senior Mobile Architect to own the technical direction of the Expo/React Native member app, serving 1M+ users across iOS, Android, and web. You will set standards, resolve complex issues, and guide a distributed team through delivery and major integration initiatives.

This hands-on role requires daily code engagement, architectural leadership, and collaboration with backend, security, and product teams to shape API contracts and data handling for

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 5+ years building and shipping production React Native applications.
• 5+ years as the senior technical authority on a mobile application at scale (hundreds of thousands of active users or more).
• 3+ years architecture experience in the mobile space.

Responsibilities

• Own architectural decisions across state management, navigation, API integration, caching and degraded-network behavior, cross-platform rendering, and module boundaries.
• Review pull requests and provide substantive architectural feedback, not surface-level approval.
• Mentor mid-level and junior developers; grow the team's capacity to make sound decisions independently.
• Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex production issues, including performance regressions, crash clusters, and platform-version incidents.
• Own release readiness for the mobile application: upgrade strategy, dependency currency, native build and release pipelines (Bitrise), app-store submission, and rollback posture.
• Partner with backend, security, and product teams on API contracts and data-handling requirements.
