Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum Rx team seeks a Sr Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain portable Rx UI packages for both member- and agent-facing apps using React and React Native. You will translate designs into reusable components, architect scalable state management, and integrate backend services within a unified JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem.

You will work primarily remotely within the U.S., with in-office requirements in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. for certain hires.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience specializing in front-end web and mobile application development.
• 3+ years of experience building applications using React for web and React Native for mobile environments.
• 3+ years of experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, including ES6+ syntax, asynchronous programming, custom hooks, and component lifecycle management.
• 3+ years of experience with HTML5, CSS3 layout techniques (Flexbox, CSS Grid), and modern UI frameworks like Material-UI (MUI) or Tailwind CSS.
• 3+ years of experience with state management libraries (Redux, React Context API) and API integrations (RESTful APIs, GraphQL).
• 2+ years of experience integrating AI tools, automation frameworks, or intelligent assistant tools into development workflows and applications.
• 2+ years of experience writing automated unit and integration tests using frameworks such as Jest, Detox, or Playwright.
• 2+ years of experience with code version control (Git) and asset compilation build toolchains (Webpack, Vite, Babel, NPM).
• 1+ years of experience managing mobile release workflows through Apple App Store Connect, Google Play Console, or Expo Application Services (EAS).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop portable Rx UI packages for web and mobile apps.
• Build AI-powered solutions and scalable component architectures.
• Leverage AI tools and automation to streamline workflows and code generation.
• Translate wireframes into reusable components using React and React Native.
• Utilize MUI to construct multi-theme UI systems across apps.
• Manage complex app state with Redux or Context API.
• Connect front-end to backend microservices via REST or GraphQL.
• Optimize performance, minimize bundle sizes, 60fps animations.
• Write automated tests with Jest, Detox, Playwright.
• Manage deployment pipelines through App Store Connect, Google Play, and EAS.
• Explore new technologies and AI trends to inform design.
