Job summary

Wayfair is seeking an ML engineer/research scientist to advance our ads, search, and recommendations ML systems in a hybrid Seattle, WA site. You will build robust retrieval pipelines, apply deep learning to personalization, and collaborate across product, engineering, and data science teams to deliver scalable, business-aligned solutions.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, production deployment on cloud platforms (GCP), and state-of-the-art ML methods while contributing to Wayfair's Ads

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with 4+ years industry experience or BS with 6+ years in quantitative STEM.
• 1+ years industry experience as ML engineer/applied scientist/research scientist delivering ML projects autonomously in recommendations, search, or ranking.
• Expertise in recommendation systems including candidate generation, ranking algorithms, and user-item modeling.

Responsibilities

• Develop robust retrieval systems: surface high-quality, personalized product recommendations at scale.
• Apply deep learning and representation learning to model user preferences, product attributes, and contextual signals for better recommendations.
• Explore sequence modeling, embeddings, and multi-modal modeling for next-gen recommender systems.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to align recommendation strategies with business objectives and user needs.
• Address cold-start, data sparsity, product compatibility and seasonality in dynamic environments.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and represent Wayfair at ML conferences.
