Atlassian is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for the Agentic Search team. You will build agentic search systems to help people and AI agents discover enterprise knowledge and accomplish tasks across products and tools.

You’ll join the Search Relevance group, working on interpreting intent, planning searches, and integrating with customer experiences across Atlassian products and AI integrations. This role emphasizes production-ready ML, experimentation, and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of relevant industry experience in machine learning, including delivering ML capabilities into production.
• Strong Python programming skills and ability to build reliable production systems.
• Experience in one or more of LLM applications, AI agents, information retrieval, search relevance, or NLP.
• Experience designing experiments, building evaluation datasets, and analyzing model and system behavior to guide improvements.
• Regular use of AI tools in daily engineering workflow, with judgment to validate outputs.
• Understanding ML development lifecycle from data prep to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Ability to lead ambiguous technical projects and communicate clearly with partners.

Responsabilités

• Build agentic search capabilities for AI assistants and developer workflows via APIs and MCP.
• Develop reproducible benchmarks and evaluation tools reflecting realistic tasks across models and environments.
• Use evaluation results and signals to improve the full search system, from strategies to interfaces.
• Build agentic search systems that interpret user intent and select sources and tools.
• Explore advances in LLMs and agent systems, including prompting and tuning where appropriate.
• Own projects from problem definition to deployment with enterprise data boundaries.
• Collaborate across product, search, and AI teams to shape direction.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to robust engineering practices.
