Job summary

Scale AI is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to own generative AI, agentic AI, computer vision, and reinforcement learning in production. You will design, implement, and evaluate end‑to‑end agent capabilities with support from engineers, ensuring robust performance in secure, constrained environments.

Based in the Washington DC area, you will work on government‑focused products like Donovan and Thunderforge, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and research teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying applied ML systems in production environments.
• Extensive experience with GenAI, Agentic AI, NLP, DL, RL, or computer vision in production.
• Track record of owning architectural decisions and defending tradeoffs.
• Experience shipping agentic systems with real production traffic and evaluation rigor.
• Strong programming skills in Python; experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of agent capabilities end to end — architecture, implementation, evaluation.
• Define new patterns in uncharted problem spaces and lead the build.
• Deploy state‑of‑the‑art models to production for customers and taskers.
• Improve and maintain production models and agents through retraining and tuning.
• Build evaluation benchmarks and verifiers to measure improvement.
• Collaborate with product and research teams on high‑impact initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and act as a technical reviewer for the team.
• Communicate tradeoffs clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
