Job summary

MasTec is seeking a Project Manager to lead a standalone multi-craft, joint venture, or EPC mining project up to $100 million. You will oversee safety, quality, and project controls, and coordinate with engineering providers and joint venture partners.

The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering or construction management, 10 years field experience, and MSHA-regulated mining expertise. Travel up to 90% and relocation may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management.
  • Ten years of field experience.
  • Experience in MSHA-regulated mining and aggregate operations.
  • Maintained compliance with MSHA safety standards and participated in accident prevention programs.
  • Conducted workplace examinations, safety meetings, and contractor oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee site management team (Construction Manager, Project Engineer, Quality Manager, Safety Manager, etc.).
  • Represent the organization professionally in client interactions.
  • Communicate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors on project issues.
  • Champion the Corporate Safety Plan and develop a site-specific safety plan.
  • Review completions status and schedule progress; identify productivity problems and propose solutions.
  • Review all work plans and work packages.
  • Provide support to ensure the site quality plan is communicated and inspections and quality documentation are completed on time for final turnover.
  • Coach superintendents on monitoring and staying within estimated labor rates.
  • Review JSAs and train all craft and staff to correctly complete JSAs.
  • Lead jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
  • Schedule material deliveries and monitor procurement status reports.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
  • Review material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.
  • Review submittals or transmittals to customers, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.
  • Review and approve major field-issued purchase orders and subcontracts, including those issued by home office.
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
  • Support project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, transmittals, memorandums, and other contract-required correspondence.
  • Develop and review all project controls such as productivity tracking, risk and opportunity logs, and scheduling metrics.
  • Provide information for the creation and maintenance of a master project schedule.
  • Approve and negotiate all change orders to the prime contract.
  • Drive planning through the master schedule, 6-week, 3-week, 1-week plans, and manpower curves.
  • Assist with administering accounting, job costs, and work in progress updates; support the Project Manager with these activities.
  • Lead budgeting processes and convert estimates to the company’s standard phase codes.
  • Identify trends in labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment costs and communicate with the Home Office as needed.
  • Manage the cost forecasting process for the entire project and propose corrective actions when needed.
  • Establish cashflow forecasts to ensure positive cashflow for the project.
  • Act as primary company representative in all customer interactions.
  • Know all provisions, terms, and scope of the prime contract.
  • Develop and prepare Schedule of Values and all invoices to the customer.
  • Work with Recruiting to hire staff professionals for the project, using established requisition processes.
  • Approve construction equipment purchases and rentals.
  • Manage, lead, and mentor direct reports.
