Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Waste team in Lakewood, CO, with consideration for St. Louis, MO or Madison, WI. Lead the civil design of tailings and waste rock facilities and oversee geotechnical analyses for mining projects across a regional team.

You will manage field investigations, laboratory testing, and complex analyses, while guiding junior engineers, ensuring QA/QC, and supporting proposals and client development. Colorado salary scope included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior geotechnical design experience.
• Professional Engineer registration.
• Demonstrated experience in tailings management and heap leach facility design in mining industry.
• Sound knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
• Demonstrated client liaison and business development skills.
• Project management experience with small to mid-level projects; scoping and tracking hours/expenses.
• Strong written and verbal communication for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to lead junior team members and ensure QA/QC.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, including layout and design.
• Manage geotechnical projects: field investigations, lab testing, data interpretation, analyses.
• Perform complex geotechnical analyses: soil mechanics, stability, seepage, modeling.
• Deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget under senior oversight.
• Support client relationships and business development activities.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and supervise junior engineers.
• Contribute to technical proposals and design work packages.
• Promote safe, ethical, and efficient project execution.
