Job summary

SMI is developing software that generates millwork shop drawings. We seek a lead draftsperson in Manhattan to review and correct software output, ensuring drawings are accurate, complete, and buildable for a high-end shop.

Expect to correct dimensions, joinery, materials, and edge conditions at volume, helping the system learn from your corrections. Long-term, on-site role with stability and growth.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years as a lead draftsperson in a high-end custom millwork shop.
• Knowledge of how a shop actually runs and how drawings are translated to built products.
• Proficiency in millwork detailing including casework, paneling, joinery, hardware, finishes and shop standards.
• Strong judgment to identify what is wrong in a drawing without guidance.
• Comfort in clearly communicating what is not right and in continuing work on unfinished software.

Responsibilities

• Review software-generated millwork shop drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Correct dimensions, joinery, materials, hardware, edge conditions and assembly sequences.
• Judge the output from a shop perspective to ensure buildability.
• Handle high-volume corrections to accelerate learning in the software.
• Flag recurrent errors to fix issues at the source.
