Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc is seeking a Senior Accountant, Mill Accounting, to support a broad portfolio of mill-related accounting activities across the North America Mills. You will prepare journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, and schedules in line with U.S. GAAP.

The role partners with mill finance, operations, and corporate teams, driving accuracy, timely reporting, and process improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 3+ years of accounting experience in manufacturing, industrial, or mill environment.
• Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close deliverables.
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls; SOX experience preferred.
• ERP systems such as SAP and/or JD Edwards; familiarity with BlackLine, Alteryx, or BI tools is beneficial.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to work with financial and operational data.
• CPA certification or progress toward CPA preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare recurring and nonrecurring journal entries with supporting documentation.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations and schedules.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items and maintain close calendars.
• Perform period-end cutoff procedures and ensure completeness of records.
• Analyze account balances and provide variance analyses for management reporting.
• Support SOX controls and respond to audit requests with documentation.
• Collaborate with mill finance, operations, and corporate accounting to resolve issues.
