Job summary

King County is seeking a Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer to own administration and optimization of the county’s M365 tenant, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive. Qualifications

• Proven experience administering and supporting Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Viva, and related workloads.
• Skilled in PowerShell scripting for automation, bulk actions, reporting, and troubleshooting across Microsoft 365 environments.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex, multi-service technical problems using problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 security and compliance including Conditional Access, MFA, DLP, auditing, and eDiscovery.
• Experience performing lifecycle management for cloud services including configuration updates, optimization, feature rollout planning, and governance.
• Ability to interpret technical standards, documentation, and change-management processes to maintain stable operations.
• Experience supporting end users and IT teams by handling escalations, providing guidance, and creating troubleshooting documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences and clear documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, business groups, and vendors to resolve issues.
• Proven ability to evaluate new Microsoft 365 features and interpret release notes for adoption readiness.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level administration and operational support for the Microsoft 365 tenant, including Exchange Online/On-Prem, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive for Business, Viva modules, M365 Apps, Forms, and related services.
• Maintain service health, apply updates, manage configurations, and ensure adherence to operational standards.
• Troubleshoot advanced technical issues across M365 workloads, including Level 2/3 escalations; perform deep-dive analysis and collaboration to restore service.
• Support change management processes, test performance and impact of new features, and validate functionality in test environments.
• Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles for M365 services.
• Automate routine tasks and workflows using PowerShell, Graph API, or other scripting tools to improve efficiency.
• Perform lifecycle management activities including feature rollout coordination, license optimization, configuration updates, and retirement planning.
• Support security, governance, and compliance requirements including Conditional Access, DLP, MFA, eDiscovery, and related features.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and KCIT partners to plan improvements and deliver secure, efficient services.
• Contribute to standards, roadmaps, and process improvements for reliability and consistency across M365 environments.
