Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior Microgrid Automation Engineer to lead microgrid and renewable energy projects within a fast-paced team. You will design, test, and integrate microgrid controls, working across electrical and telecom disciplines to deliver robust energy solutions.

The role requires a BSEE with 4–8+ years of microgrid experience, familiarity with SCADA/EMS systems, and proficiency in CAD and modeling tools. Expect field visits, collaboration with utility clients, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 4–8+ years of microgrid experience.
• Strong knowledge of microgrids and renewable energy.
• Power system Protection and Control (P&C) experience.
• Ability to learn and use client software and databases.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).
• Ability to perform field work in rough terrain to access remote project locations.

Responsibilities

• Utilize microgrid control systems and automation tech (SCADA, EMS, IEDs, HMIs, RTUs).
• Apply islanding, grid-connected operation, energy management, and control strategies.
• Participate in FAT and SAT testing.
• Perform Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing.
• Demonstrate knowledge of renewable tech (PV, wind, batteries, DERs).
• Use power electronics for interfacing DERs (inverters/converters).
• Plan and engineer telecom systems for projects.
• Develop project schedules and budgets.
• Create drawings and specs for utility telecoms.
• Coordinate with internal/external teams; travel to sites.
• CAD modeling, simulation tools, and microgrid programming.
