Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center is seeking a Specimen Processing Supervisor for the Microbiology Lab in Renton, WA. The role oversees pre-analytical processing, accessioning, and workflow, with responsibility for automation systems and environmental monitoring.

You will lead staff, hire and onboard, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and collaborate across sections to improve turnaround times and service quality. Evening shifts with 100% FTE are available.

Qualifications

• Two years of college-level science in an applicable field and one year of experience as a Specimen Processing Technician Lead.
• High School graduation or GED with two years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Equivalent education/experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate pre-analytical operations with emphasis on microbiology specimen accessioning, processing, and workflow.
• Oversee all CLT functions related to specimen handling and processing.
• Monitor and maintain automated microbiology systems (WASP, automated streakers, smart incubators, digital imaging).
• Conduct maintenance, calibration checks, and quality control for microbiology instrumentation.
• Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and evaluate staff for 24/7 SPS operation.
• Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and Department of Health.
