Job summary

University of Washington in Renton, WA seeks a Specimen Processing Supervisor for the Microbiology Lab. The role oversees pre-analytical processing, specimen accessioning, and automated systems to ensure accurate, timely microbiology testing.

You will supervise staff, coordinate shifts, and maintain equipment while ensuring compliance with CLIA, CAP, and Joint Commission standards. This 100% FTE evening shift position offers growth and ongoing staff development.

Qualifications

• Two years of college-level science in an applicable field and one year of Specimen Processing Technician Lead experience.
• High School graduation or GED with two years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Equivalent education/experience

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate pre-analytical operations with emphasis on microbiology specimen accessioning, processing, and workflow.
• Oversee all CLT functions related to specimen handling and processing.
• Oversee operation, monitor, and maintain automated microbiology systems (WASP, streakers, incubators, imaging).
• Perform maintenance, calibration checks, and quality control for microbiology instrumentation.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, train, schedule, and evaluate staff; manage performance.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and DOH.
• Utilize LIS and other software for data management and workflow tracking.
