Job summary

University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle seeks a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 for its Microbiology Team. You will accession and process specimens, answer calls, and manage orders in LIS/EHR, using the WASP system for processing with routine maintenance.

The role requires basic lab experience and a high school diploma or ASCP-approved training. The position is a 100% FTE, day shift, 1-year temporary appointment, with Sunday-Thursday schedule in the Microbiology lab.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent is required plus one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
• Alternatively, completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications where no license is required.

Responsibilities

• Accession test requests and track specimens in the LIS and EHR.
• Batch and un-batch specimens and transport them appropriately.
• Operate the WASP to process specimens and perform maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Process bacterial and fungal cultures for all specimen types.
• Prepare and stain direct smears (Gram stains, KOH preps, Trichromes, malaria preps).
• Answer calls and direct questions to appropriate personnel.
• Interact with health care providers professionally about specimens.
• Troubleshoot specimen issues and enter cases in hc1.
• Follow procedures and know where to find information in the lab.
• Maintain work area cleanliness and stocking of supplies.
