Job summary

The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) is seeking a Principal Scientist, Microbiology to lead the microbiology reference materials portfolio and drive new product development in line with the Microbiology Business Unit strategy.

You will oversee scientific studies, validation strategies, and production investigations; mentor staff; and collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to advance USP’s scientific leadership and quality standards.

Qualifications

• MS degree in microbiology or related field with 10+ years of experience.
• PhD preferred with 12+ years in the microbiology field.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership for microbiology reference materials portfolio.
• Lead studies, method development, validation strategies, and product characterization.
• Develop new microbiology reference materials and establish an innovation pipeline.
• Mentor scientists and oversee production investigations and CAPAs.
