Job summary

The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) in the United States seeks a Principal Scientist, Microbiology, to lead the microbiology reference materials portfolio and guide method development, validation, and product characterization in support of USP’s microbiology program.

You will build collaborations with internal teams and external stakeholders, mentor scientists, and drive continuous improvement while advancing public health standards and scientific leadership in the field.

Qualifications

• M.S. degree in Microbiology, Microbial Engineering, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or relevant field with 10+ years of experience.
• Ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams.
• Strong presentation and communication skills (written and oral).

Responsibilities

• Provides scientific leadership for USP’s microbiology reference materials portfolio and ensures alignment with strategy.
• Leads studies, method development, validation strategies and product characterization.
• Identifies and develops new microbiology reference materials to expand the portfolio.
• Collaborates with documentary standards scientists for strategy and approaches.
• Leads cross-functional teams through complex product development initiatives.
• Mentors scientists and laboratory staff, prioritizes work and approves reports.
